Children and Work in a Backyard Escape Studio
When my husband Sebastian decided to put one of his Studios in our backyard as a home office, I was a little wary of the idea of the greenery in our small backyard dissolving on account of the space that it would take up. Since, however, I knew he was desperate to retreat to his home office without the distractions of our rambunctious two-year-old and six-month-old boys, I submitted to his pleas. What I was pleasantly surprised to find out when it was lowered into our backyard was that it took up very little space and after a Saturday morning of doing some simple landscaping around the studio, our backyard looked better than ever.
Now I find that not only does my husband have a productive workspace a few metres away from the hustle and bustle of our home, but I find I’m benefitting as well having a place to get some work done in those hours the boys and I are outside this spring. Our house does not have an easily accessible patio door from the kitchen that opens up to the backyard like a lot of homes do, so it’s not easy to supervise Enders while he’s playing out there. With our studio out there, though, it is easier to achieve my own productivity while being out there in the backyard with him.
I’m beginning to realize just how convenient this backyard escape is not only for my husband, but for myself as well.
