More Space for Work and Play
A backyard studio is the most practical way to add a private, finished, year-round space to your property without an addition, a renovation, or a lengthy construction project. BES designs and builds custom insulated studios across Ontario, then delivers and installs them in a single day. From a 9x9 home office in Mississauga to a 22x12 cedar music studio in downtown Toronto, every build is designed around how you actually plan to use the space.

What Can Our Backyard Studios Be Used For?
Our customers use their backyard studios in ways that are as different as their properties and their lives. Here are the most common.

A gym you own, ten steps from your back door. No membership fee, no commute, no waiting for equipment. Our fully insulated studios can handle weights, cardio equipment, and the humidity that comes with a hard workout. We can help you think through ventilation, flooring options, and mirror placement during the design phase.

An extension of your living space without the cost of an addition. Whether it's a TV room, a games room, a teenage hangout, or just somewhere to spread out during family gatherings, a backyard family room adds livable square footage without touching your home's footprint or your building envelope.

The most common reason people build with us. A dedicated workspace that is physically separate from your home changes how you work. No interruptions from family, no background noise, no context-switching between home and work mode. You walk out the back door and you are at work. You walk back in and you are home. Most of our home office clients say the separation alone was worth the investment.

A finished, insulated structure beside your pool or in your entertaining area changes how you use your outdoor space. Whether it's a bar, a changing room, a covered lounge, or a combination of all three, a studio designed for outdoor entertaining becomes the anchor of your backyard. See our cabana and pergola options if this is what you have in mind.

An insulated BES studio significantly reduces sound transfer between the studio and the main house, making it a practical space for drums, amplifiers, vocal recording, and band practice. We don't build fully soundproofed recording booths, but for most home musicians, the combination of insulation and physical separation is exactly what they need.

Artists, jewelers, woodworkers, potters, and makers of all kinds use BES studios as their primary workspace. A private studio with no landlord restrictions, no noise complaints, and no commute between inspiration and creation. The space is yours to set up exactly as your work demands.

- Electrical (we leave conduit access and recommend a licensed local electrician)
- Plumbing (BES does not install plumbing)
- Interior finishing (drywall, flooring, trim); though we offer interior finishing packages in birch plywood, pine tongue and groove, and Nexcore PVC for customers who want us to handle it
Built to Ontario Standards - Not to a Kit Spec
The structural difference matters too. BES studios are prefabricated in our shop and installed as a finished structure. Kit cabins and prefab bunkies ship as flat-pack components you assemble on site. The quality consistency of a shop-built structure compared to a field-assembled kit is significant, especially in the areas that matter for Ontario: airtight vapour barriers, proper window and door seating, and roof details that handle snow load without leaking.
Every BES studio is built to the same structural standard as a newly built home addition. That means proper headers, engineered framing, and insulation that meets Ontario Building Code SB-12 minimums.
